Established in 1981 by graduates of yeshiva high schools and hesder yeshiva, Carmel boasts of 62 families between the ages of 20-50 who place emphasis upon living modestly and in a manner respectful of one another The great majority of the residents earn their living from agriculture out of a deep commitment to working the Land of Israel While day care facilities and kindergarten are provided within the community, elementary school children, on through the eighth grade, travel to nearly Sussia via transportation organized by The Southern Hebron Hills Regional Council. High School teens have a choice of the religious high schools in neighboring communities Extracurricular activities for children include drama, art, storytelling and various religious classes. Bnei Akiva holds regular weekly activities in separate groups for boys and girls Rabbi Yaacov Ohev Tsion gives a class for women on Shabbat. There are also Rosh Chodesh parties and regular fitness classes There is a daf yomi group for men In addition to the synagogue and mikve, there is a library, Leumit medical clinic and recreational center located in Carmel. Groceries are ordered from neighboring Sussia and Metar Directions:Egged line 51 travels to Carmel through Beersheva and Kiryat Arba |
