ITAMAR

From its elevated vantage point, Itamar looks out on the stunning hills of Samaria Many residents support themselves through the organic agriculture, guided by the principle of Jewish labor, which is made possible in this fertile area

Established in 1984 by a group of families from Machon Meir in Jerusalem, the desire was to put the principles learned in the Beit Midrash into daily practice in such a way as to help bring about the geula

Itamar looks out from its several hills on the thousands of dunam listed for its future development. Presently, 100 families, native-born Israelis and olim, live in Itamar and preserve its original goal of being a Torah community. They work in a wide diversity of fields including agriculture, building, computers, education, rabbis and business people

The Itamar educational frameworks begin at 3 months and go through elementary school with the emphasis placed on inculcating a love for Israel, its land and nature. There are over 50 babies in the day care centers at any given time, separate boys’ and girls’ kindergartens, approximately 70 girls in the girls’ elementary school and over 80 boys in the boys’ elementary school, both of which go from first through eighth grades

Most community girls choose to go to high school in the Ulpana in neighboring Kedumim while the boys learn in Rabbi Yaacov Idels’ yeshiva, Hitzim. It should be noted that boys from all over Israel join Itamar boys at the yeshiva

In addition, Rabbi Ronski’s yeshiva gevoha run by Avraham Cohen, hosts many adult talmidim

Extracurricular and cultural activities in Itamar include carpentry, art, ceramics, music and animal husbandry for children and choir, drama and art for adults. There is also a basketball court and soccer field, a library, Beit Midrash for women and kollel for men. A swimming pool with separate hours for men and women is located in nearby Elon Moreh
